About Nahatales — Where Food Meets Storytelling

Nahatales is the blog of the internet where the two closest things, food and storytelling, meet each other. Neha, the one who cooks, writes, and clicks pictures for the blog, is the person behind this whole deal — and I really mean it, guy.

The kitchen has always been more than just a place to cook in my house; it's a place where the past is kept simmering, new stories are born, and the whole place gets fragranced with the smell of comfort and nostalgia. Grow up, I did, in the company of women who didn't cook just to feed the family but to express their love to the family.

Mum, grandma, and their cohorts did not only pass on the recipes to me — they also gave me small bits of our family history. Each and every dish told the story: of the times when the festivals were celebrated, of the passing of the seasons, and most of all, of the togetherness that was shared around the table.

Those kids-time food experiences made my love for food and my decision to start Nahatales. Nahatales is the place where I mix the old with the new — where time-honored recipes are mingled with today's kitchen creativity. Here you get to see the likes of comforting curries, hearty bakes, refreshing salads, and quick weeknight ideas along with the personal side of the stories.

My main intention is not that of sharing just the food on the plate but also the reason why that particular food is so special — the times, the fun, and, most of all, the memories that are behind it. Food, to me, is the most direct way of storytelling. Each and every ingredient is a memory, each meal has a meaning, and each recipe has little bits of the maker's heart.

Through my blog, I intend to make a record of those times and then share it with all those who believe that cooking is an act of loving. Whether you are a seasoned home cook or just embarking on your food journey, I would like Nahatales to be your source of inspiration to go further, try out new things, and take pleasure in your kitchen.

Also, I cannot stop myself from thinking that food is a very strong bond that brings people together across borders. You will find some recipes that are deep-rooted in Indian culture, but there will also be some dishes that use ingredients from different cultures — my way of saying that food, like our stories, is changing.

My recipes are fuss-free, can be made with simple ingredients from the daily pantry, and are quite often made warm and comforting by the addition of some spices. Being a self-taught cook and photographer, I am in the kitchen with my sleeves rolled up for hours at a time, I am involved in experiments, testing, and then styling the dish before it gets shared on the blog.

Every post on Nahatales is the result of an act of love — from cooking and writing to photographing and editing — because, by doing so, I want that same happiness to spread among all the people who read it. Apart from the recipes, Nahatales is the memoir of the blogger's life — from the thrill of coming across new ingredients to the revisiting of the ones you liked when you were a kid and which never lose their charm.

It is a place that honors home cooking, family relationships, and the stories that are being told with the help of food. So, if you are in the mood for a recipe to amaze your guests, to cook a dish that reminds you of your past, or just to dive into a snug food story, then you will find something here that is sure to comfort you.

Thanks for dropping by and being a part of this ride. Do it like this - by putting yourself together a cup of chai, taking a seat, and exploring — because at Nahatales, you can always find something nice and delicious that has been kept waiting for you to be shared. 🍴
